The Yeah Yeah Yeahs at the 9:30 Club

Last night, the Yeah Yeah Yeahs kicked off their latest tour in support of their new record, Show Your Bones, at the 9:30 Club.
The first time I saw them was when they toured with Jon Spencer Blues Explosion and The Liars at the House of Whites in Las Vegas, and their only release was the ep on Touch & Go. Back then, they had a lot of great stage energy, and you could help love Karen O's crazy singing ang dancing onstage. There weren't a lot of people at that show, but last night was different. They had sold out the 9:30 club.
I got their early despite thunderstorms and the Orioles' opening day traffic. Man, lots of young'uns there, too. Openers Blood on the Wall were good. The band was loud, rocking and very unphotogenic- reminded me some of The Pixies, but more raw and noisy. Snapped a picture of guitarist Nick Zinner and drummer Brian Chase watching the openers play.
The Yeah Yeahs were great! Karen O was wearing a crazy silver dress with ripped fishnets, and she jumped around and posed while she sang. My cousin Sue calls Karen O her hetero-gay crush.
The other two plus one members were much more in the background. Brian Chase wore large headphone ear protectors while he drummed and Nick Zinner was ever the cool guitarist. I hope I made it into his next photo book. (Sue, I know what I'm getting you for your birthday!)
They played for an hour- including a lot of songs from the first ep, and certainly a lot of great tunes off the most recent record. NPR simulcasted the show on their site and you can download the show here.
